Dungun: A man and his nephew were rescued unharmed after nearly 18 hours on a tree near the junction of Bukit Besi here after a fiberglass boat they were traveling in overturned yesterday afternoon.
Mohd Nazir Mamat, 33, and Mohd Zafirul Izhan, 19, was rescued by the Fire Department and Rescue team in the state branches of the tree hugging and chills around 12 noon.
Officer in Charge of Fire and Rescue Station Bandar Al Muktaffi Billah Shah (AMBS) Imran Ismail said, when the incident happened at about 6 pm, both victims on the way to take their family members in Kampung Padang Ping floods.
"Fiberglass boat carrying them overturned and swept away by strong currents before they could save themselves by reaching branches of trees and sought refuge in the basement," he said when contacted by Bernama.
He said the fire before it receives a call from a man named Shahari Din informing saw the two victims in the trees.
"Upon receiving a call, about 11 hours of this morning, 12 firefighters in cooperation with the police and Tenaga Nasional Berhad launched a search and rescue them.
"Rescue teams managed to find prey fatigue with hugging a tree in the cold," he said, adding that both were taken to Toanumbu and did not suffer any injuries.
Meanwhile, Shahari, 46, said when the highway at about 10:30 am this morning, she heard a male voice calling for help.
He said he was surprised by the relevant voice stopped and exited the vehicle and saw two victims were on top of a tree and wave to him and continue to inform the matter to the fire.
"I was on my way home to my mother-in-law in Kampung Padang Ping to help move the mother-in-law," he told Bernama.
