Penang ferry suddenly ignite and burn sparks panic


Georgetown: About 300 passengers were ordered out after the engine of a ferry here, suddenly ignite when heading to the terminal Raja Tun Uda on the island this morning.

The incident occurred when the ferries departing from Sultan Abdul Halim.

In the incident at 8:30 that morning, Payar Island Ferry respect back to the back of the ferry jetty after it is filled puff of black smoke believed to be caused by damage to the engine.

Vice Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB), said all the passengers survived without any injuries.

"Based on initial inspection, parts engine damaged causing a plume of black smoke coming out of the back of the ferry.

"But there was no fire and the situation can be controlled by ferry crews trained to be ready with safety measures in the event of an emergency on a journey.

"We always make sure the ferry in good condition for use every day, but the possibility of unforeseen events such as leaks or fires can not be overlooked at all, "he said.
