Gold shop robbery: RM280,000 vanished in a minute

KUALA LUMPUR: A group of robbers only took about a minute to get two gold tray in a robbery at a jewelery shop in Jalan Lebuh Ampang here Saturday afternoon.

In the incident at about 2:42 pm, four suspects seen on two motorcycles Honda red and white before two of them entered the shop.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Department Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad said the suspect then proceeded to break the glass display counter and carry off gold chains and rings of two trays involved.

"The suspects used hammers and machetes to rob and to wear helmets and gloves to avoid being identified.

All suspects dressed in a white shirt (black) and black pants, "he said.

Value losses estimated at RM280,000.

Zainuddin said the gold shops had faced attempted robbery in 2013.

Gold shop owner was also reported wounded in the shoulder after he was shot during the attempt.

He added in the latest incident, there were five workers in the premises but they are in the mesh fence and the premises had no security guard.

"Police are investigating footage of closed circuit television (CCTV) at the scene to identify the suspects," he said.

He said CCTV footage showed there were three men at the scene of the image.

The case is being investigated under Section 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery in a group.
