Malaysia's challenge at China Masters end

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's challenge at China Masters Badminton Championship in Changzhou, China ended after two representatives lost their semifinal matches today.

Top women's doubles of Vivian Hoo and Woon Khe Wei suffered a shock loss to Tang Jinhua dan Zhong Qianxin, 23-21 and 21-9 in 39 minutes.

The unfancied Chinese pair will meet their compatriots, Bao Yixin and Tang Yuanting in the final match tomorrow.

Hoo and Woon were the 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medalist and also the top seed in this tournament.
Bao and Tang, who are the third seed, beat their teammate Chen Qingchen and Jia Yi Fan 21-17 and 21-16, also in 39 minutes.

Malaysia's mixed doubles pair of Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying put up a strong fight before losing 21-17, 17-21 and 21-17 to China's Liu Cheng and Bao Yixin, the top seed.

Liu and Bao will meet the Indonesian pair of Edi Subaktiar and Gloria who beat Wang Yilv and Tang Yuanting of China 21-17 and 23-21.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) did not send women's singles players to the Grand Prix Gold tournament which offers overall prize money of US$250,000 (RM926,990).
