Nahas Duke: No term of favoritism, said Miros

KUALA LUMPUR - The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) will cooperate with police to facilitate investigations into the crash on Highway Duke on Saturday.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi said that a thorough investigation will be conducted including the analysis of closed-circuit camera (CCTV) to identify the cause of the accident.

"The detailed investigation will be conducted and penalties such as suspending licenses can be taken if there is evidence of negligence in driving," he told reporters after visiting the families of victims in Taman Batu Muda, Batu Caves here, today.

In the incident that occurred at about 1:05 that morning, the couple and their baby daughter died aged seven months in an accident involving three vehicles at Km 6.2 Highway Duke of Ulu Klang heading towards Jalan Duta.

They are Fairuz Husain Nizam, 35, his wife Nova Safitri Azhari, 25, and their baby Firuza Nur Annisa.

Abdul Aziz also assured there is no element of bias in the investigations to be carried out.

In the meantime, to help the families of the victims, he said, a savings account will be created in collaboration with the heir to the Miles Foundation.

In the meantime, Abdul Aziz said the Road Transport Department (JPJ) should conduct more rigorous enforcement, especially on a week night to monitor the activities of illegal racing and to ensure that other road users do not become a victim of circumstances.

Asked about the fairness of the vehicle clubs to register with the RTD, he said the ministry would conduct a study on the matter, including holding workshops to find suitable methods for the club operates.

In the one-hour visit, Abdul Aziz also presented a personal donation to the families of the victims.
