Parliament is lower than the municipalities, the local authorities?

KUALA LUMPUR - The position of the institution of Parliament allegedly lower than the municipalities in the country following the government does not intend to return the Parliamentary Service Act 1963.

MP (DAP-Seremban), Anthony Loke reiterated the government's actions to prioritize the future officers and civil servants against the Parliament will only threaten the independence of the institution in the country.

"The institution of Parliament is inferior to the municipalities in the country.

"The municipality is a full service, we are worse than municipalities, Seremban Municipal Council for example there is full service, employees can not be converted to any government department.

"But the officers of Parliament can be converted to other government departments while they are all administrative officers of diplomatic," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby, here, today.

He was responding to a written reply the Minister in the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim today regarding his oral question asked the prime minister whether the government intends to re-establish the Parliamentary Service Act 1963.

However, only a written reply stating the proposal would be considered in accordance with current requirements for giving space to the officers and staff of Parliament to develop their careers.

Elaborating, Anthony also said, the answer is surprisingly he also showed the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is no political will in the administration to restore the independence of parliamentary institutions in the country.

"The reason it's a funny thing amongst all of Parliament in the world, we can not use that excuse.

"This is very unfair to the institution of parliament, if that happens, the institution of Parliament is not much difference with the municipalities," he said.

Meanwhile, he also urged Shahidan resigned as minister of parliamentary affairs following the Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia had lost confidence in him.

"Speaker himself said that the minister in charge of this Parliament should be dissolved, as if the speaker can not co-operate with the minister in charge of this Parliament.

"Self employment has been unable to keep him well, much like shadow cabinet affairs intervened PR," he said.
