KUALA LUMPUR: A former personal assistant Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan today decided to withdraw the RM50 million suit against his former employer.
High Court Judicial Commissioner Azizul Azmi Adnan made the decision after lawyer Saiful, Zamri himself informed him about his client's intentions, reports The Star Online.
In the meantime Latheefa Koya, a lawyer representing Anwar said today should be designated as a day for case management.
He said that when the court is in progress in the rooms, Zambri told the court that his client wanted to withdraw the defamation suit against Anwar.
"No reason was given for the withdrawal. The judge then canceled the summons," he said.
Mohd Saiful said earlier will testify on August 10 in front of a RM50 million suit against Anwar on the incident over the past seven years.
Lawyer Mohd Saiful, Zamri himself, told the media that the plaintiff will call at least 10 witnesses to testify at the trial, which is set for five days from August 10 next.
On June 23 last year, Mohd Saiful, 30, filed suit seeking RM50 million damages after claiming he suffered physical pain and suffering since 2008 due sodomized by Anwar.
In his statement of claim, Mohd Saiful Anwar accused the police report claimed he had made on 28 June 2008 concerning the creation by it as a slander and conspiracy against the opposition leader.
Mohd Saiful claimed he had never lied to the content of the police report stating Anwar sodomized him and was last incident occurred on June 26, 2008, at Unit 1151, Desa Damansara Condominium, Jalan Setia Kasih, here.
Mohd Saiful claimed he was despised by the people who believe the charges against Anwar, in addition to being ridiculed on social sites to cause them suffering severe stress caused by the defamation and events.
Anwar, 67, in his statement of defense filed on October 8 last year, he denies sodomizing Mohd Saiful and said the allegations were untrue past.
On Feb 10 this year, the Federal Court upheld a five-year prison had been decided because the Court of Appeal against Anwar of sodomizing Mohd Saiful.
