I defend freedom of speech is not an individual - Nazir Razak

Nazir said what he maintained was the principle of media freedom and freedom of speech.


PUTRAJAYA: The Chairman of CIMB Group Datuk Seri Nazir Razak today stressed his comments regarding the suspension of permits for The Edge and The Edge Financial Weekly not to defend any individual.

On the other hand, said Nazir, what he maintained was the principle of media freedom and freedom of speech.

"It's not for people The Edge Weekly and The Edge Financial Daily, I stand for freedom of the press", he said, who is also the younger brother of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

He said this when asked about the comments through his social media accounts regarding the suspension of the permit of the publication by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA).

Meanwhile, Nazir was also quoted as saying that the family ties are still intact.

"I have personally talked with my brother's (Najib) but I will not reveal it," he said.

He was commenting on the matter during a Hari Raya open house of former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at the Dewan Seri Endon, Puspanitapuri, Putrajaya today.

On Friday, Nazir in social media account records say The Edge is the cornerstone of the business community and play a role in ensuring that businesses get the information industry in an honest and competitive.
