Fighting Intensifies on India-Pakistan Border
There have been more civilians killed in cross-border fighting between India and Pakistan in the disputed region of Kashmir.
Indian officials say at least two civilians were killed and 18 wounded Tuesday night in gunfire and mortar exchanges. Pakistani media report three deaths from Indian firing.
Nine people were killed Monday, marking the highest civilian death toll in the Kashmir conflict in more than a decade.
Thousands of civilians have been evacuated on both sides.
Indian Air Chief Marshal, Arup Raha, says India is seeking a quick resolution to bring the border flare-up to an end.
“The government is taking it seriously, we want a quick resolution of this problem, we want peace and tranquility,” said Raha.
Tensions between the two countries have intensified since India called off talks with Pakistan last month after the Pakistani High Commissioner held a round of talk with Kashmiri separatists. India said Pakistan has to choose between talking to New Delhi or the separatists.
