Gas station explosion killed 73

Explosive gas station in Accra, Ghana.

ACCRA - GHANA. At least 73 people were killed in the explosion of a gas station in the heart of Accra, Ghana, authorities said.

A spokesman for the fire brigade and security of Ghana, Billy Anaglate said the cause of the explosion is still unknown and rescuers were trying to pull bodies from the scene.

"We're still trying to remove the victim from the scene prior to issuing the official number of victims involved in this crash," he was quoted by AP.

Some of the images broadcast by local TV station showed some bodies still trapped in the rubble. The explosion also caused some surrounding buildings were destroyed.

According to one witness, Michael Lange, many victims are involved in the explosion consists of residents who seek shelter from heavy rains that hit the area.
