Four burnt to death in the lorry and car accident on LPT2

Stampede caused the lorry, car carrying a family of six was dragged about 70 meters before both vehicles caught fire.

Kuala Terengganu: Four burnt to death and two others injured after a car carrying them burned in an accident involving a truck and a car in the Hulu Terengganu today.

The incident occurred around 4.30 pm at kilometer 386.6 of the East Coast Highway 2 (LPT2) Ajil-Bukit Besi.

Hulu Terengganu District Police Chief DSP Deraman Hussin said the accident occurred after a truck 10 tons unladen driven by a man from Kuala Terengganu to get to Johor Bahru skidded and crashed into the vehicle.

Stampede caused the lorry, Kia Spectra car carrying a family of six was dragged about 70 meters before both vehicles caught fire.

During the incident the driver to stop his vehicle on the shoulder of the road after his car broke down.

He said initial investigations revealed that the victim's death is two adults and two children.

Victims who died was the driver Razi Ahmad Harun, 53, Dayang Suhana, 23, Omar Rayyan Suhaimi, 6, and Nur Damia Irdiha Rosailan, aged one year, all in the car when the accident happened at about 4.30pm.

Meanwhile, Hafsah Wangari, 56, who suffered a severe injury and Sharifah Wangari, 49, suffered minor injuries, were out of the car during the incident.

"Due to drag it, a fire and we believe that the four died. Two adults and two children. We do not know yet gender. Season reliable of Kelantan, "he said.

Driver is now detained by police for further investigations.

Meanwhile, the commander of the Fire and Rescue Department operations Hulu Terengganu, Mohd Zamri Omar said as many as 10 firefighters from Fire Station Hulu Terengganu rushed to the scene to remove the victims burnt to death.

He said lorry accidents cause burns to 70 per cent at the front while the train involved burning a whole.

The victims were rushed to the Hulu Terengganu Hospital for treatment.

The bodies of the four victims were sent to the same hospital for post-mortem.
