KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is deemed not in accordance with the instructions of the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (Customs) in conflict resolution issue price of prepaid cards after one month of implementation of the goods and services tax (GST).
UMNO Youth Exco, Ibdilillah Ishak said the situation was seen making society more confused with the 'fight' between the Commission and Customs which is a regulator of the implementation of GST from April 1.
"Yesterday was not until several hours after the Royal Malaysian Customs directs all telecommunications companies are required to maintain the original price of prepaid cards based on the concept of 'tax inclusive (including tax) effective May 1, SKMM through its Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Halim Shafie appeared to reject the directive ,
"Yesterday morning most of the media to report the Director General of Customs, Datuk Khazali Ahmad said, the directive in relation to the price of prepaid cards is maintained at the original price had been sent to all telecommunication companies on Wednesday to ensure that companies comply with the directive.
"However, the Commission is responsible for overseeing the telecommunications industry issued a press release through their Facebook page that the prepaid reload will continue to be sold with the GST is added to the filling amount prepaid (prepaid)," he said in a statement here today.
Obviously, the question that arises now is who is in control in fact of the Commission or JKDM.
"The statements made by the two parties is contradictory at all. It causes many are still confused. Why did the Commission not follow the instructions of the Customs, which is the regulator of the implementation of the GST?
"MCMC should be aware that they represent a body that oversees the telecom industry. It is their responsibility to ensure that any police or government policies followed by telecommunications giant companies.
"Do not act as if being an agent of interest 'telco' only.
Does the Commission want to hear talk 'bosses' telecoms giant consumer complaints or wanted to hear most? "He said.
He added that the Commission's responsibility is to protect the interests of users of repressed by telco companies rather than safeguarding the interests of companies that want to reap excessive profits.
"The reaping excessive profits are giant corporations, which are burdened consumers.
"At the moment people are still adjusting to the GST tax system and feel a bit squeezed by the cost of living is higher, the parties must immediately find a way to solve this problem by maintaining a prepaid at the original price," he said.
