ESSCom confirm receive reports robbery in Temple Island, Semporna

Lahad Datu: Special Security Area East Coast of Sabah (ESSCom) confirmed that Semporna District Police received a reliable report on the case of armed robbery in Temple Island, Semporna.

ESSCom commander Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun said police were investigating the matter, while ESSCom also conduct operations to track criminals.

He, however, said that so far it has not been able to verify whether the criminals were armed or otherwise.

"At this stage we can not associate the incident with the Philippines Sulu criminals or members of Kidnap for Ransom (KFR) because the local people are also becoming pirates," he said in a statement today.

The alleged robbery incident happened about 3 am Thursday (May 7), in the region Island Bait shrimp ponds, involving five men armed with rifles and a pistol.

During the incident, two workers, but they were not injured before the robbers fled several items including mobile phones, laptops, outboard engines and wallet containing employee identification cards and cash.

In the meantime, Abdul Rashid said they received information that a group of armed criminals viewed in an oil palm plantation in Kinabatangan.

He said it had launched an operation in the region by using all the powers that be, after receiving reports from the public.

"In addition, we also want to familiarize our members with the forest environment in the area to make a clearance especially in areas with no military camps and police stations.

"So far, we have not found anything suspicious but always enhanced security as a precaution to avoid unwanted incidents," he said.

He advised the public not to panic as the situation in Eastern Sabah Secure Zone (ESSZone) is controlled and if there is any doubt, they should contact ESSCom operations room at 089-863181 or the nearest police station.
