Nur Fitri not allowed to appeal to the Mara - Shafie

Nur Fitri (the pictures) is not allowed to appeal to the Mara to continue his studies under the agency.

KUALA LUMPUR: Students who are convicted pedophile was recently not allowed to appeal to the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) to continue his studies under the sponsorship agency.

Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie was commenting on the case of Nur Fitri Azmeer Nordin, who was sentenced to five years in prison by a court in London for the offense of having images and videos of child pornography.

He said the ministry and Mara also will not make an appeal against the sentence imposed Azmeer Nur Fitri, 23, which requires a degree in mathematics at Imperial College London.

"However, family members Nur Fitri Azmeer allowed to appeal against the sentence," he said in a statement to Bernama here, today.

Shafie said he did not support and reject any activities related to pornography.

Stressing the ministry and Mara serious matter, he reminded Mara sponsored students to follow established law wherever they may be.

According to media reports, Nur Fitri Azmeer arrested during a police raid on his home in Queensborough Terrace on Nov 20, 2014.

He pleaded guilty in court to 17 errors have pedophile material with intent to distribute.
