KUALA LUMPUR: The decision deferment of the election for 18 months by the Supreme Council (MT) UMNO youth seen extra time to learn the ins and outs of the leadership of the party in order to give the best to the people.
Puteri Umno chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said it thus proving the integrity of the administration and the party can be enhanced by the General Election (GE) 14th later.
"It will provide a space for young people to learn more and really willing to take over the administration of the party when they fall due.
"Leaders will also have the existing time to strengthen the party at the same time pouring knowledge essential for maintaining the strength of his own party," he said when contacted here today.
Mas Ermieyati to review the decision of the Supreme Council (MT) on Friday suspended the UMNO elections.
According to the President of UMNO, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, the decision was made to ensure the robustness of the party in the 14th general election later.
He added that the practice was also done just as in the days of former president before.
"Party elections next year will be suspended for 18 months. After we discussed, MT took the decision in accordance with Article 10.16 of the Constitution which entitles the party's supreme council," he said.
In addition, Najib also said, at present, very important for UMNO to give priority to the people, the needs of people, policy and strengthening the party's grassroots and to face the next general election.
On Saturday, former Prime Minister and former Umno president Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the decision to postpone the Umno elections scheduled for next year for 18 months is the usual action, which was also done before.
He said, he was also postponed when leading UMNO party elections leading Barisan Nasional (BN) is due to several reasons.
In the meantime Ermieyati Mas said, there is no issue as the issue of the suspension of the country's strategic investment company, 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

On Saturday, UMNO Secretary General, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the decision to delay UMNO election has nothing to do with the crisis 1MDB.
