KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said it was standard practice around the world for many leaders to use the official jet, but it is not for luxury but as efficiency in carrying out their duties.
"The interior of the aircraft is configured so that meetings and discussions can be held on board and state the task can be continued even during the flight.
"Therefore, there arises the question of whether or not a country should have an official jet," he said in his latest blog entry NajibRazak.com.
In his notes, he lists 13 counts and allegations leveled against him and the government, besides giving her feedback on the matter.
He explained executive aircraft Airbus Corporate Jet (ACJ 320) purchased to replace the 16-year-old aircraft that are harmful in terms of safety.
"In addition, it is also the official plane used by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, which is the reason why we can not compromise on security," he said.
Najib said the old aircraft maintenance costs are high, so the government will dispose of old aircraft and the money raised from the sale will be used to reduce the cost of new aircraft.
"We can not be swayed by opposition propaganda that the government was wasting money buying new jets. What they fail to say is that the jet was purchased to replace the 16-year-old aircraft, which is dangerous in terms of security," he said.
