Dr. Mahathir current volume 2 of his letter tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR - Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, will launch the Volume 2 of the book contains his selected letters to the world leaders when it was in office for 22 years at his office in Putrajaya Perdana Foundation on Wednesday.

The book entitled "Dr Mahathir's Selected Letters to World Leaders" is a follow up to Volume 1, published in 2008, which received overwhelming response from readers to reprinted nine times, says the editor of the book, Tan Sri Abdullah Ahmad.

Abdullah told Bernama today that the book, which contains 73 letters Dr Mahathir, who has never been published, two more letters from Volume 1, Malaysia underlying diplomacy and international affairs during the period from 1987 to 2003, especially between Malaysia and Singapore.

These include correspondence between Dr Mahathir and three American president of George H. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush; third British Prime Minister (Margaret Thatcher, John Major and Tony Blair); Gen Pervez Musharraf and Benazir Bhutto (Pakistan); Iraqi President Saddam Hussein; Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi; Fidel Castro of Cuba; and Nelson Mandela of South Africa.

However, Abdullah described the correspondence between Dr Mahathir and his counterpart from Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew and Goh Tok Chong, as the letter "the most surprising and most provide understanding" following a long history of antipathy that exists between the two countries.

In the prologue to the book, Dr Mahathir wrote that as prime minister, he tried to broaden the field of international diplomacy and Malaysia.

"The sovereignty and independence we have always maintained that the people of Malaysia have more than a comfortable place to live in the world hierarchy.
