Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak

SHAH ALAM - Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been infected with the disease that is often challenging opposition for debate.

Speaker Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak said, as a former Prime Minister, Tun Mahathir should understand that the debate with ordinary people rather than the protocol appropriate for a national leader.

"Tun Mahathir has called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to debate the body 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

"It is not proper protocol for a Prime Minister to accept the debate of ordinary people, even citizens who had become Prime Minister or the Leader of the Opposition," he said in a written Blogged.

He added that Dr Mahathir should instead propose to hold the debate with Najib that can be peeled 1MDB topic more widely.

"If the Leader of the Opposition what's up, what's the issue, he can always bring these matters to the Council of Representatives. However, the debate can not cope with such issues as 1MDB. The debate should include issues wider.

"On the other hand, if the debate is limited to only 1MDB, the debate should focus on the claim that 1MDB has lost RM42 billion and RM42 billion has vanished into thin air," he said.

Najib at a ceremony yesterday warned Dr Mahathir that his ratings had diminished by 50 percent at one time and only remain as prime minister because the party constitution.

Najib said he still receives support from the people and the party to continue to lead the country.

Salleh Said in the meantime Dr Mahathir also questioned the attitude allegedly impatient and in a hurry to resolve the crisis 1MDB.

"The only way to solve this problem is to wait for the PAC report and see what it says.

"Why Dr Mahathir refused to wait for the PAC? What is he afraid of?
