Spurs ease past Hull as relegation battle goes to the wire

Goals from Danny Rose and Nacer Chadli pushed Hull City to the edge of relegation as Spurs won 2-0 at White Hart Lane.

The first half was goalless, but both sides had chances. Spurs went closest when Erik Lamela turned a cross at the near post just wide of the woodwork, and Eric Dier flicked a cross over at the start of the half.

Hull had the best chance, though, when Nikica Jelavic found himself with room to shoot from a corner, crashing a shot from close range against the bar. Jelavic also went close with an overhead kick that sailed just over.

In the second half, Spurs took the lead just after the hour mark when Chadli’s diagonal run was found by Erik Lamela, and he rounded Steve Harper for an easy conversion. 10 minutes later, it was two as Ryan Mason’s magnificent chipped pass found Rose, who volleyed home.

In the dying moments of the match Rose should have been sent off but the referee decided to be lenient.
